come across that mention how many new gardeners there seem to be this season as compared to previous years.  Largely due to the economy, people are looking for ways to raise their own crops of organic garden goodies.

Here is a recent article in the Lancaster County Newspaper that gardeners might find interesting:

• Did you know that you can plant basil near your tomatoes to help enhance the flavor and keep away pests?  Wow!  Who knew?!

• Did you know that planting cosmos flowers near tomatoes and peppers helps attract praying mantis and lady bugs, which eat the pestier pests?  Who knew!?
  
• Did you know that tomatoes and peppers are the easiest veggies to grow in containers?  They are easy for newbie gardeners and those who are limited with space – grow a tomato plant on your deck!

Does this news excite you as much as it does me?  It makes me wish these rainy days would end already so that I can go out and play in the dirt, not to mention make myself a yummy tomato salad (with basil!).

cooperating very much lately.  Even so, once the rain clouds disappear, orders start “pouring” in.  It seems people are anxious to get out into the yard and de-clutter their garages by adding a backyard shed.  We’re happy to oblige!

Between rainstorms, we’ve been busy adding Pergolas to our inventory.  These beauties come in sizes beginning at 8 x 8 and go up to 14 x 24.  Our pergolas are all Amish made and are all built with pressure treated lumber. They can be ordered with clear sealer that brings out the beauty of the wood grain (as shown here on this in-stock 10×16 Pergola), or in a high quality white paint applied at the shop (as shown below).

The standard pergola comes complete with a floor, so that you can enjoy it right on your grassy lawn without having to mow underneath it.  Or, it can be ordered as a “kit” with or without a floor, so that you can install it wherever you’d like such as on a patio or deck.

Busy as a bee at Fox’s lately

Things have been really busy at Fox’s. Finally, we’ve started painting the back office so that we can set it up into a larger private space for order-taking, filing, etc. Which means, that our showroom is expanding. We have some great cupolas just waiting to be put out on display, as well as some very, very elegant-looking vinyl mailbox posts. We’ve been selling those, even though we hardly have any out to show. I need to remember to keep buy on of those for myself.

We will also be adding some lovely copper weathervanes for sale in our display area, as soon as we can make the room for them. Since we are mainly a manufacturer for wholesale vendors, our retail display has always taken second place. But, we’ve got plans to not only spruce it up a bit, but expand it as well, since we are always adding new inventory. We’d love to keep more in stock to better serve our customers, both wholesale and retail.

Lately, we’ve been keeping very busy building large 2-car garages and storage facilities for special orders. They just keep getting bigger and bigger! You know what they say, the only difference between men and boys are the prices of their toys. It seems guys are not only spending their cash on autos and other big pieces of machinery, but are also very concerned about storage for their large toys. I’m happy to report that we can accommodate these needs, and meet each and every special request.

We have another build-on-site to do tomorrow, so its an early day for everyone at the shop. The guys in the plant have been busy keeping orders up to date as everyone gets ready for a holiday weekend. We’ve been selling gazebos like hotcakes in lancaster pa this year, with everyone wanting their order before the holiday rolls around. Seems like there will be lots of backyard picnics this year when the fireworks start to go off. Not surprising, with the cost of gas lately, it seems that more and more people are investing in their homes and their backyards. Why vacation when you can stay at home and have your own oasis? This includes the recent requests we’ve had for poolhouses. It seems everyone is putting in a pool this year, and want somewhere cozy and comfortable to stay out of the sun.

I’m excited to start this blog, and share some of my views from our country corner of the world in Lancaster County, PA.

It’s never quiet in the office, with the fax machine spitting out new orders, to customers stopping by asking if we sell sheds. Well, Yes we Do! We are not only a manufacturing and wholesale facility, but we are a retail outlet as well.

We’re starting to plan on redecorating our office and retail sales area, but it seems that there are never enough hours in the day to get everything done. In the meantime, though, we are working on some new designs that should be available as soon as our wholesale orders slow down a bit. Since just about everything is custom made, attention to detail is paramount. Our dealers, as well as our retail customers, deserve our undivided attention ~ so, the office and retail renovation is taking second place for now.

In the meantime, take a look at one one of our latest designs ~ Fox’s Potting Shed! It’s a potting shed that every master gardener would be proud of, including Martha Stewart! If I had a green thumb, I’d have one of these in my yard for sure.
