Here is a wonderful photo of the Fox’s Country ShedsCorner Nook” shed (a 5-sided shed) that was sent to us by a happy customer.  We delivered the shed to Virginia last year, and he was kind enough to send us a current photo with the landscaping completed.  We think the Corner Nook shed looks great in the corner of this customer’s backyard.  What do you think?

We’ve been busy getting ready for a swinging 2012 – and just because it is January does not mean that shed builders are sitting on their laurels doing nothing!  We are slightly redesigning the popular Manor Shed to bring you a Heritage-style design.  Both, the Manor and the Heritage are sheds in the Estate Series offered exclusively by Fox’s Country Sheds.

We are in full production here at the Fox Den – a.k.a. our shop – and our crew is busily building stock sheds for our shed dealers to place on their lots once a busy spring season hits.  Of course, we are open year-round, and you can order your Manor Shed now.  Why wait for Spring when the backlog is huge?

Here are some photos of our new Manor Shed – an Estate Series Shed by Fox’s Country Sheds that will truly enhance your upscale property.

Fox’s Country Sheds not only builds sheds, but also specializes in prefabricated or built on site single and 2-car garages.  Many of our customers prefer the prefabricated buildings that we deliver completely assembled.  When we deliver a pre-built two car garage, most often it is delivered in two pieces and the final assembly is done on site where the two halves are joined together.  Other customers of ours here at Fox’s Country Sheds prefer to have their garages built ‘on site’ which means that we will come to your location and erect the structure.  Most times this is when the municipality will only offer zoning approval for a concrete floor garage or poured footers as a foundation. Many times we will need to do a build-on-site if there is no access for a fully assembled structure to be delivered, such as lack of driveway space or other obstacles.

Fox Sheds can build a garage for you either way, whether pre-built completely or built on-site.  Below are a few photos of a custom “build on site” that was done for a customer in New Jersey.  We often have customers from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland and Virginia contact us about building a garage or shed, and of course we deliver what they need!

Be sure to scroll through the slideshow of a custom 2-car garage with a concrete floor, which was “built on site” for our New Jersey customer:

Well, let’s say that now that you have your backyard storage shed – you need to put things away in it in an organized manner.  And keep it that way.  Sometimes that is easier said than done.  Here are some ways that Fox’s Country Sheds suggests that you can organize your tools and equipment in your backyard storage shed or garden shed.

Used Crates:  Do you have any old wooden or plastic crates lying around?  Bet you never thought about stacking them securely and using them as storage

A wall of crates creates a unique storage solution for your shed.

cubicles.  Take a look at the photo on Design Squish that uses stacked crates to create a wall of storage.  You can easily adapt this use in your garden shed as well.   This makes an ideal solution for keeping garden equipment separate from household tools.  One crate can keep open bags of grass seed safely contained while another can keep power tools out of reach of youngsters.  Use your imagination and space in any way that they will fit alongside the walls of your shed.  The nice thing about this solution is that you can use as many or as few as you have room for, depending on the size of your shed.

Pegboard Wall Storage:  Another idea to keep garden shed tools organized is to install a wall of pegboard.

This is available as an option on all of the sheds and garages available at www.FoxSheds.com.  You can always paint it to create a cheery interior, as shown on this photo from Martha Stewart.

Are we nuts?

I saw a squirrel chasing a nut across the street yesterday, and somehow it struck me as quite ironic.  I’ve admitted before that I hate squirrels (and yes, hate is a strong word), but I was too amused with the scene to think about putting the pedal to the metal and making roadkill out of him.  No, I would never really do that, and I found myself slowing down to let him cross, as I watched, amused.

Interior of Garage built on site from Fox's Country Sheds

Who am I to put the brakes on his goals? It was quite funny because this nut was rolling down the hilly street, and this poor squirrel kept catching up, before it would get away from him again.

What struck me as ironic is the fact that we are all – squirrels and humans alike – chasing something. It might be a dream, it might be a goal, it might be the basic pursuit of happiness. And when we find that “something”, whether real or perceived, we tend to store it away.

But at what point are we content with what we have? Here it is, springtime, and this squirrel surely would have had enough nuts stored away by now over the long cold winter.  Yet, here was one more that he just needed to have, risking life and limb and bushy tail as he crossed the street in front of my silver four wheeled nutcracker.

How much stuff is too much?

Setting up the interior of a doublewide garage from Fox's Country Sheds

Where do we put all our stuff?

How do we keep it safe until we need to use it?

It reminded me of  when I was actively selling real estate, and buyers and their continued search for that one perfect house – chasing after each new listing and never making a decision.   The perfect house is out there, yet the search continues until they’ve exhausted themselves and their agent.  When do they stop?

It reminded me of myself as an active real estate agent and my continued search for the perfect buyer.  The perfect listing.  The perfect comission split and the perfect broker.  When do we stop?

And real estate sellers aren’t left out of the picture either. A seller who has stored all of his nuts into the equity of his home, only to find out that his cache is not worth as much as he thought. Where’d all that equity go?

I guess all of these thoughts would not have normally crossed my mind at the sight of a squirrel chasing a nut, but it just happened to be right as I was heading to yet another busy day at work at Fox’s Country Sheds. All my thoughts were on the busy day ahead, helping to run a custom storage shed manufacturing business and helping our customers to select the perfect storage shed for all of their nuts. Ahem…stuff. Thoughts of work, shed sizes, shed styles, “did I get the wholesale price lists out to all of our dealers”, “did we get the skylites on order in on time for the potting sheds”, is so-and-so ready for their delivery, etc., along with way too much caffeine in the morning, sparked this vision of us all chasing nuts.  And storing them.

….And thus, you might think I am one (a nut)…… but I’m not.

I’m just storing one.  Or two.  Or several.  Just like you are.

Heritage Shed Garage from http://www.FoxSheds.com

Maybe I’m not a nut – just a pack-rat. Where else can I keep my endless supply of garden hoses, rakes (at last count I think we have about 5 rakes), shovels, unused flower pots, sprinklers, opened bags of potting soil and peat moss…. you get the picture.

But, unlike that squirrely little gray rodent, my stuff is neatly stored in my Heritage garden shed garage.  If you ever wonder what type of shed or garage a shed builder has – this is it!  I lovingly refer to it as my “sh-arage” a cross between a shed and a garage.

After watching this squirrel and his amusing chase, I have to admit ~ I have a newfound respect for that busy little rodent.

But, as roomy as my Heritage Shed garage is – squirrels are not welcome!

This month, September 2010, Fox’s Country Sheds is offering a FREE ridgevent with any shed purchase of 8×12 or larger. Mention this offer to any Fox’s Country Sheds sales rep to receive your free ridgevent!

Not sure what a ridgevent does or if it is needed on your shed?  Below is an interesting article on how a ridgevent works when installed in your home.  The principles are the same for why a ridge vent is important in your shed.

A ridgevent, when properly installed, will allow the hot air that collects to escape as it rises in your shed (hot air rises!).  Since sheds are generally not as tall as homes, there isn’t a whole lot of area for the hot air to collect, making some sheds too hot to want to spend much time in there.

Allowing the hot air to escape will also extend the life of your shingles, something that we highly recommend even though the shingles used by Fox’s Country Sheds in each and every building are all 30-Year shingles.  Hot, moist air collecting under your roofing sheathing is not very healthy for your shed.

Along with the hot air, a ridgevent will allow fumes from your gas powered lawn equipment to escape.  So, if the hot air doesn’t bother you too much, consider the fumes collecting in your backyard shed from your lawn tractor.

A ridge vent is particularly important to include when considering options for your shed when you will be using your structure as a Garden Office or Workshop.  In this case, you may even consider upgrading to vented soffits along with a ridgevent for a fully ventilated shed or garage.

To learn more about ridgevents, read the article below.  And to order your 8×12 shed with a FREE ridgevent during the month of September 2010, click on our website at www.FoxSheds.com .

Well, we finally got it done, although the rainy days skewed up our schedule a bit.  I’m talking about a beautiful, custom, Manor Shed design that we built for customers in Elizabethtown, PA., this week.

rainy day at Fox's Sheds

rainy day at Fox's Sheds

It seemed to rain – hard – every time we had the shed site prep scheduled for this particular customer. I’m sure it started to get them discouraged, but mother nature is beyond our control.  Site Prep is when our crew goes out to the customer’s property to prepare the site where the shed will be placed.  A proper site preparation, also called “a pad”, entails our crew going out with a skidloader and a dumper (ours is affectionately called “big red” or Clifford) full of crushed 3/4″ stone.  (I like to call the skidloader Wall-E because it reminds me of that little creature in the Pixlar movie).  But, I digress.  To prepare the pad, we measure out the size of the shed, add 12″ all around, and start to dig down with the skidloader about 4-6 inches (depending on the lay of the land).  We can either haul that extra dirt away, or leave it for the customer to use for other uses around the house.  Then the dumper jumps into action and fills that area with the stone, while our guys level it out.  Sometimes a border is required, sometimes not.

So anyway, it seemed that every time we planned on getting this particular site done, it would rain.  Hard. (I realize I am repeating myself here, bear with me!)  We really don’t like to drive all of this large equipment onto someone’s wet yard, so we need to re-schedule and hope it doesn’t rain again for the new date.

Our other delay for this particular shed was the backorder for the custom vinyl siding that the customer selected.  Our standard vinyl siding is a dutch-lap style, which is a very popular type of vinyl siding.  But some customers have a particular manufacturer or style/color on their home, and they would like to use the same vinyl siding on their shed.  We have access to all manufacturers and can easily order whichever siding the customer selects to upgrade to.  However, we cannot always control the distributor’s shipping schedule.  So, this Wolverine Natural Clay siding was delayed as well (and we can’t blame mother nature for this!).

Sheds in a Row at FoxSheds.com

Sun shines on sheds!

Finally, the site prep was done and there were a few clear, sunny days predicted for this part of the Susquehanna Valley here in Lancaster County. What had us so concerned about the nice weather after the site prep was done was that this particular shed was to be “built-on-site”. Since there was no access for a delivery shed trailer to bring in the shed pre-assembled, our crew pre-built the majority of the walls, doors, etc., in our shop and built the entire shed “on site”.  It is usually a site to behold!  Like an old fashioned barn-raising, our crew can usually have the shed up in just a matter of hours.  For a truly customized shed, this may take a bit longer.  We also have shed kits available for customers who choose to build the shed themselves.

In this case, it was two days of “on site” building. This custom Manor Shed design had several windows added to it (in addition to the two that are standard) with box trim on each of them.  If I recall, I think it was a total of 10 windows (which makes a great potting shed)!  It also had raised walls (7-ft tall) and a “dutch door”.  The standard door on the Manor shed is a round-top wood door, which really adds appeal to the design of the shed.  “Dutch Doors” are the type of doors that are split into two, where you can swing open the top part when undoing the latch that holds it into place, while keeping the bottom part of the door secured in place.  It’s what you may see on many barns, where the horse’s head is peeking out to see what is going on. 🙂   Shawn helped to build these, and he knows why! 😉

After two days of building, the custom Manor shed is done! We are excited about it, and the rest of us in the office at Fox’s Country Sheds were anticipating seeing photos of it.  Unfortunately, someone forgot to take a photo! Not mentioning any names though (Brad!)  🙂  Hopefully we will have time to go back this week and take some nice ones to share.  Until then, we will all have to use our imagination (including you)!

Below is what the standard Manor Shed looks like.  We’ll post pics (as soon as we can) of the custom designed “build-on-site” shed we just completed.

Villa Pagoda Poolhouse Shed

Enough can’t be said about how wonderful this Villa Pagoda poolhouse shed turned out for us here at Fox’s Country Sheds.  Customized to the specific needs of a recent customer, this shed now finds its home poolside in a New Jersey backyard.

So, where do you keep all of your pool stuff? How about those chaise lounges and floaty mats?  Skimmer?  Pump?  Lord knows you’ve spent quite a bit of hard earned cash on building the pool, why just settle for any ol’ shed from Home Depot or Lowes when you can have something this lovely for probably a similar price? Truth be told, I don’t even know how much the sheds cost at Home Depot or Lowes, because quite frankly our quality just can’t compare.  This is what I am told anyway, you will have to be the judge of that yourself after you do the research.

Front view of Villa Pagoda poolhouse shed from http://www.FoxSheds.com

So many of our Fox Sheds “sheds” can be customized to become a “poolhouse”.  Many of our customers add a porch, larger windows, full-glass doors – to just about any of the basic styles that we build.  On some, we even add an interior dividing wall, creating two separate areas.  The front, as an example, would be finished by the customer (or we can do it for an additional fee) to become an interior sitting area or changing area.  The rear portion would be left as the

Shed Kits are available for your fenced-in or inaccessible yard from http://www.FoxSheds.com

interior of the shed to be used for storage.  Some customers even add a bathroom – we all know how hard it is to keep the kids from running in the house all soaking wet!

Take time to view our various styles of sheds on our website at  www.FoxSheds.com and keep in mind that we deliver to just about anywhere.  Our website is easy to use, just enter your zip code where asked and you will be able to view the various sizes each particular shed is available in. The price shown includes delivery to your accessible and prepared site.  It’s that easy!

Also keep in mind that our sheds are available as shed kits as well, which might be just what you need if your backyard or pool area is already fenced in.  All of our “shed kits” (well most of them anyway) have an instructional DVD to help you with the construction, as well as printed instructions.  It’s a good idea to have some carpentry skills.  If you don’t, no need to panic!  Many of our customer’s who do order a shed kit but do not have carpentry skills will hire a local handyman to build it for them.  So, you can have a pretty shed in your fenced in area after all!

If you are looking for a place for all of your pool “shtuff”, look no further than Fox’s Country Sheds to build a beautiful poolhouse or shed to meet your needs within your budget.
